Sunderland Coach Legal Case

The Spirit of Shankly, and its members who were on the coach back from the Sunderland away match in 2011, have been in the forefront of a legal action against various police forces who illegally stopped away supporter coaches from stopping on the return journey.
The current position is that there are two test cases that will come to trial in Summer 2015 in Leeds at which liability for the illegal action
will be decided. These cases will hopefully lead to a positive outcome for the two lead cases and following that the other 37 Union members who travelled on that coach.
There are also 317 other cases covering a number of other coaches that await the outcome of these test cases. Darren White, solicitor for the Union members, has recently written to the 37 concerned seeking instructions on settling the cases.
Darren has asked the members to consider whether he should push a technical point as this might (he can put it no higher than that) encourage a better settlement for Union members but could prejudice the other 317 claims.
Clearly any decision is personal to the affected member but the Spirit of Shankly Management Committee (upon which a few affected members sit) are of the view that we should encourage our members to stand shoulder to shoulder with the other supporters affected and seek settlement for all while at the same time setting precedents for future Liverpool FCand other Club¹s supporters.
Those Committee members affected will be asking Darren not to take the steps suggested by him and for the matter to go forward to a full trial in the Summer when hopefully our members and all other affected supporters will be vindicated.
