Meeting with Greater Manchester Police

Earlier this week, representatives from the Liverpool Supporters' Union met with Greater Manchester Police (GMP), ahead of the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday 13th January. The GMP invitation to meet was to discuss how the game would be policed and to identify any issues from previous games which could be resolved in the future. Union representatives discussed several issues including the use of toilet facilities in the event of stay behind. GMP have subsequently released the following statement:

"1) Liverpool supporters may be retained in the stadium for a short period of time post match all efforts will be made to ensure this is for the minimal amount of time and supporters will be allowed access to toilet facilities.

 2) Alcohol will be on sale to away supporters and the turnstiles will be open two hours prior to kick off.

 3) Trafford has in place a DPPO (Designated Public Places Order) which prevents individuals drinking alcohol on the streets around the stadium area. To fail to comply with the direction of a Police Constable enforcing this order is an offence.

 4) It is an offence to carry alcohol on supporter coaches and on arrival at Old Trafford coaches will be searched

 5) It is offence to be in possession of any flare or pyrotechnic device. Pyrotechnic detection dogs will be in operation at this fixture and any supporter found in possession of any such item may be subject to arrest and a subsequent application for a Football Banning Order to be imposed.

 6) Liaison has taken place with supporters groups during the planning phase of the policing of the fixture and their views have been taken into consideration throughout this process.

Greater Manchester Police have a zero tolerance approach to incidents of hate crime."

If any Liverpool Supporters' Union members have issues on the day they should contact a committee member or send us a message via social media.
