LFC Stewards at Swansea City

It has come to the attention of the union that official Liverpool Football Club stewards were filming fans on the concourse at Swansea on Monday night. We would ask anyone affected by this to contact the union at clubliaison@spiritofshankly.com. While the club are entitled to do this, there are legal requirements that need to be met for this to be allowed. We would hope that these have been met by the club and that both Swansea City and the police were made aware by the club that they were intending to do this.

Supporters also have legal rights when they are being filmed which can be found here. We would hope the club abide by these rules.

With the production of the leaflet given out with away tickets and the filming of their own fans, the question needs to be asked what the club's motives are behind these bully boy tactics. If as it has been suggested in some quarters that they are doing this to target fans whose behaviour has brought the threat of reduced allocation for away matches, we call on the club to produce evidence to back up such claims. If they are unable to do this, they should call off this witch hunt which has fans fearful of a criminal record for nothing more than going to a football match.

Such scare tactics are totally unnecessary. They are targeting fans who have travelled the length of the country for many years to do nothing more than to support the team they love. Supporters who on Monday were subjected to being filmed by their own stewards after making a round trip of up to 300 miles, had lost a day's pay and arrived back in Liverpool at 3am Tuesday morning then went straight into a queue to buy tickets for the upcoming game against Manchester United only to given the same leaflet threatening them with a banning order.

In that leaflet the club calls on fans to uphold the values of the club. Are the club upholding those same values in the way they are dealing with their own fans on this issue?

We would invite anyone affected by these issues to attend our AGM on Saturday at The Liverpool Lighthouse at 12.00 where Amanda Jacks from the FSF will be speaking and will hopefully be able to answer any queries you may have.
